As we reach the adulthood stage our teeth becomes more vulnerable to plaques and tooth decay. This is because of our diets that cause discoloration of our tooth, damaging of our tooth enamel. Foods that are sticky like starchy snacks should be lessen because it allows plaque buildup in our tooth. Drinks like sodas and fruit juices intake also should be reduced since it contains acid that can destroy our tooth enamel. Smoking and alcohol also is one of the contributing factors that cause discoloration to our teeth. If this happens, it needs a professional help for cleaning and whitening of teeth.
As an adult we should brush our teeth twice a day, and floss daily to remove the plaque that has build up in between teeth and on the gum lines. Our diet has an important role too, so if you are going to take a sack it is much wiser to eat fibrous food like raw vegetables, fruit, and yoghurts for the reason that it helps on cleaning the teeth. Food that is rich in calcium is also a good choice when snacking. Cheese, milk and other dairy products are good source of calcium, which strengthens the tooth enamel (and bones). Foods that are high on sugar should be lessened, sugar intake can cause tooth decay and damaging on our gums which may result to tooth lose.
If you are using retainers, braces and other tooth appliances, be sure they are cleaned, or soaked on cleaning solutions if needed. There are special care needed on these, be sure you have asked your dentist about it. Ask your dentist about what toothbrush you should be using. Caring does not only mean brushing, using mouthwash is also an excellent way to improve the oral health. Drink lots of fluoridated water. Or use toothpaste that has fluoride. Gums should be taken care too. If a bleeding persist while brushing, medical help may be needed for it may be a sign of gingivitis.
Oral care is so important in our adulthood, negligence on it may cause for more trouble.
