Five easy steps to adopt a vegetarian diet

A vegetarian diet is one of the best ways to eat healthy and stay fit. A typical vegetarian diet comprises of only fruits and vegetables and excludes any form of meat, even eggs. Vegetables and fruits are a rich source of fibers, vitamins, magnesium, minerals, potassium and various types of amino acids that make your diet nutritious.

As a non-vegetarian it is difficult to adopt a  vegetarian diet. One of the first things that you must understand is that this transformation is a gradual process. . Switching over  to a vegetarian diet instantly will not only be difficult but also unhealthy. . The following  suggestions will make it easier for you to shift to a vegetarian option:

 1. Go slowlyTo start with, try to include fresh and organic vegetables in you routine diet. You can include one serving of fresh vegetable salad or one preparation of any vegetable foods. Slowly introduce other items such as fruits, green leafy vegetables, whole grain foods, and legume.. Try to include your favorite fruits and gradually increase the  intake.

One of the best ways to stay healthy with a vegetarian diet is by including salads of various types in your regular meals. . Salads are usually the easiest to prepare and the healthiest to eat. The main ingredients are fresh vegetables and fruits. Various dressings add flavor and extra taste.

They typically have ingredients like green leafy vegetables such as cabbages, lettuce, and spinach.   Fruits such as watermelon, muskmelon, pineapples, apples, oranges, apricots, plums, kiwis, and various types of berries in your fruit salads can be eaten while you are on a vegetarian diet.

3. Planning well

Plan the change well before going on a vegetarian diet Vegetarian foods like soybeans or soymilk and whole grains like wheat are good alternatives for non vegetarian foods. These non-vegetarian foods also have sulphur in high amounts, which has a negative effect on the body.  You need to consult a doctor or a registered dietician and chalk out a diet plan that will make the transformation comfortable so that you do not have any nutritional deficiencies.

In the initial stages, the migration to the vegetarian diet is a little difficult to adjust if you are a regular meat eater. A sudden change of diet can also lead to craving for non-vegetarian foods, which could eventually lead to hunger pangs. If you give in to your desires, you will be unable to switch to a vegetarian diet. Therefore, controlling your desires and religiously following the diet is the most important step towards adopting a vegetarian diet.
