Lip Products

Lip products are blend of oil and beeswax. Lip products with more oil content are softer, the more wax it has, and the harder. Let’s say the lip balm and petroleum jelly in a bottle is almost completely oil. While the pencil lip balm is completely beeswax. Conventional and natural lip sticks and lip balms fall in the middle being a skillful mix of the right amount of beeswax and oil. Castor oils are the most frequently used oil in making lip products because it is thick and lustrous. There are other oils which can be substituted to castor oil like the jojoba oil, olive oil, cocoa  butter, shea butter oil, and a whole lot more. Beeswax is the most commonly used cosmetic wax worldwide because it is cheaper. Other wax can also be used such as Carnauba and Candelilla. They are vegetable waxes and these are harder waxes, less greasy and more lustrous than beeswax.

In todays manufacturing trend more ingredients are added to enhance the quality of the products. They used Emulsifiers such as sorbitan, glycerine and sorbates. Sorbitan is a mixture of compound chemicals sorbitol. Glycerine is is a colorless and odorless liquid. Sorbate is a chemical used as preservatives. These are blend together to produced a cosmetics. Honey is also used in lip balm, lip gloss and lipstick to have a sweet flavor. Vanilla, peppermint oil and cocoa are now widely used as flavor enhancers. Let us take a look at the lip cosmetics characteristics.

Lip balm. Lip balm is available in variety of flavors such as mint, berry, chocolate, orange and many more. Lip balm is used to prevent chapping and dryness of lips. Lip balm is made with SPF sun protection which gradually moderate lips from darkening when expose to sun.
Lip Moisturizers. Lip moisturizers are formulated with moisturizing ingredients that actually penetrate into dry lips, instead of just staying on the surface. This is used kips peeled due to too much dryness cause by the wind and cold weather.
Sun Protectant. Lip sun protectors contains PABA or Para Aminobenzoic Acid which is part of vitamin B complex.
Lip Revitalizer. Lip revitalizers are combination of Alpha hydroxyl exfoliant. It restores lips smoothness and softness. Lip revitalizer has a moiturizing effect which locks in lips moisture. It has a gentle exfoliation that exfoliates rough dead cells from the surface of our lips. It is clinically studied that lip revitalizers reduces wrinkles on the surface and around the lips for continued use.
Lip toner. Lip toners brings out the natural luster of lips and its natural colors. It also enhances lips natural redness. Sun Protectant. Sun Protectant is made with SPF 15 protection. This is recommended to people who easily gets burn lips when expose to the sun. Limit sun exposure by wearing protective clothing. Using sunscreen will reduce the risks of premature skin aging.

Choose and use only the product that best suit your lip need. It is not necessary to use all the products listed above. Not all of us need a lip revitalizers, exfoliations is not necessarily used everyday only in some cases where advance lip conditioner is advised. A lip balm or lip moisturizers are enough for everyday usage. Though it is also good to have those items stocks for emergency use.
