When we think of the terms food and health, we can always imagine a cop that will arrest us when we did the wrong thing. Funny but true. When I was still a kid, my mind is clouded by the idea that when people talk about health foods, they talk about vegetables and vegetables and vegetables. Geez, I hate vegetables back then! The idea makes me shiver. Fortunately, I’ve grown up and realized that it is really not that way.
When we say health foods, we mean healthy foods. Yes that includes vegetables, but the list of health foods never ends there.
I remember a time in my college life when our professor in our English subject told us to have an interview with 20 persons and ask their understanding about the connection of health and foods, and later tabulate them. To my surprise, no two answers fall into one column. They all have different answers about health foods.
The most memorable answer I got was “My health makes me don’t want to eat anything now. Some say that healthy foods are those foods low in sugar, but then when I look at the labels, it has a high level of fats. Fats affect my health too, right? That is really confusing and my stomach refuses to eat. ” Does is make any sense? It sure does.
From that, a better idea blooms that when we say health foods, we talk about foods that gives us the vitamins, minerals, and nutrients that our body needs. Added to that, health foods do not mean only one dish. We are all aware that we need to vary our foods to be healthy.
We cannot eat rice, fish and water everyday. That would be very boring. To make it enjoyable, we have lots of ways to make our foods healthy and delicious.
