Severe Forms of Acne Part Two

Body News

All forms of acne are not severe enough to require the help of a dermatologist. If your acne has progressed beyond the ability of over-the-counter medication to manage it then the next logical step is to see a dermatologist. Once the decision is made to go and see a dermatologist, remove all thoughts of what you think you may know from your head. Forget the hundreds of acne commercial you have ever seen; all the rumors, home remedies, put all those things out of your mind. Make sure to bring a pen or pencil and something to right on a log book would be great. Prepare yourself emotionally to listen to everything the dermatologist has to say. While the dermatologist talks take accurate notes, ask them to slow down if they are talking to fast. If your mom or dad is going with you it may be better to ask them to take notes for you. No matter what the dermatologist says about your acne be calm and relaxed. Remember this is not one of your friends giving you advice this is a doctor that went to school for years to learn exactly what to do to take care of your skin. No matter how good the advice the doctor gives you it will not work if you do not follow it. No matter how strong the medication is or how powerful the prescription if you do not take it what good does it do you? If you have used the prescription the doctor prescribed and your acne is getting worse you may have been incorrectly diagnosed or need to try different medication. Or it may be possible you have Acne Fulminans a more severe form of acne.

“Do You Have Acne Fulminans”?

Many people have never even heard of acne fulminans unless they are dermatologists or have been diagnosed with it. What is acne fulminans you ask? Acne fulminans is a sudden onset of a severe case of acne conglobata that normally only affects young men. Just like acne conglobata lesions are sometimes present but, most common are ulcerating bumps that leave severly disfigured skin. What is unique about acne fulminans is that not only do you get lesions, but you may break out in a fever and have aching joints. The sad part is that acne fulminans does not react very well to antibiotics. The best advice dermatologists have but will rarely say is to pray or just give it time. Sometimes medication can make this disease worse and cause the ulcerating bumps to blister and ooze. Make sure not to scratch or rub these bumps no matter how itchy they get. Apply ice too see if it can help to soothe some of the discomfort you may feel. Try to wear loose fitting clothes to avoid agitating the area where it is located. One of the worse things you can do to irritated skin is to irritate and agitate it further. Try to use unscented lotions and avoid products that are not non-comodogenic.
